Last night I went through the Arby's drive thru and the man working there was really friendly and nice, kinda unusual nowadays. I get to the window to pick up my food and he hands me the pop and says this is for you, then he hands me another glass and says and this is from me. I ask, what is it and he replies a chocolate shake (which I had not ordered). So I say thank you and act appreciative. I am thinking I am not drinking that?? What did he do to it?? Then I feel guilty, maybe he really is just trying to be nice, it was probably just a screw up and he thought he would be nice to give it to me. I mean really why would he want to do anything to it? I ultimately decide not to drink it because was it worth it? If he did do something to it -was it worth it. Also I didn't order it because I do not need to drink a chocolate shake and decided prior to ordering not to order one - so what now that it is free I should just consume the extra calories.
It just got me thinking, because this has happened to me before, where someone just decides it is on the house and that makes me very skeptical, why? I mean if they were going to do something to it wouldn't they just do it whether you paid or not? Why do I think that if I pay for it then it will be untouched? Like the pop that I paid for was okay and the free shake was not??
So should I just have drank it to be nice to this person that I don't know, why do I feel bad about it?
Crazy I know, what would you have done and am I really nuts? Does anyone read this blog?

I think I would have done the same thing. I don't know why that is, but I would be nervous about being given a drink for free, you just never know. I am sure he was trying to be kind and it was probubly a mistake or cancelled order, but you can never be to careful. I might have asked him, why I was getting the drink. It is a funny question, why do we think a paid drink is safer then a free drink? I just don't know. Katy C.
You must sound hot when you order. Maybe he was hitting on you. :) Be flattered. But seriously, I probably wouldn't have consumed it, either. Isn't it sad that we have to second guess a nice gesture nowadays? But you never know. Better safe than sorry, I guess.
Yeah, I definitely would of brought it home for my husband to drink.
I read! I read!
I agree with Carol -- you must have a hot-sounding voice. It does sort of have that Kathleen-Turner quality to it. Does anybody even know who Kathleen Turner is anymore? What ever happened to her??
I would have drunk (drinken? drank?) the shake. But I have never had the willpower to resist free dessert.
It's a really interesting point about thinking the free item would be tainted... but not the paid-for one! I wouldn't have thought of that, but it's totally true that we think that way.
Katheen Turner was on Nip Tuck last week. Her character was a phone sex operator and she thought she sounded too much like a man, so she wanted voice plastic surgery.
I do not think that Nikki sounds like a man :)
Pheeww - dodged a bullet on that man sounding thing :) I guess I wouldn't be getting free things from men if I sounded like one?? I think??
I also would have normally given it to Dave, (Guess I am not as worried if it was contaminated for him) but it would have been all melted and warm by the time he got it.
I read your blog all the time - but I just figured out how to respond.
I would have said "Thanks so much for the kindness" and because I am a very trsting person, would have sipped on it without giving it a second thought. I just don't think unkindly of people. Maybe I am the dumb one. jodi
Well, he might have been gay.
:) :) :)
What I MEANT was that Kathleen Turner's voice is SEXY!!!
