Aren't my girls the cutest kids in the world? I know that I am a biased parent - but I really think that my girls are good looking kids. Anyway, we all had a great weekend up in northern MN. Friday afternoon was an absolutely perfect day for a road trip with the top down in the Jeep. Jeff and I both took advantage of the great weather and made the 3 hour drive with the radio's blasting and wind in our hair - it was awesome! Both of our rigs made the trip without problems - always a bonus. Jeff wanted to stop by our hunting area on the way (it is just outside of Hill City, MN) and plant some corn in an attempt to get more deer to stick around for us to hunt next fall. We had constructed what must have been the first piece of farm equipment for the both of us and although it was a good effort - it really didn't function quite as well as we would have liked and instead it turned into more of a ride getting dragged behind the Jeep though the woods! After a few hours of screwing around with "farming" we continued on to the campground in Grand Rapids for a fun filled evening of talking Jeeps with the boys and gawking over everyone elses rigs. Someone dumped a few beers down our throats so we decided that instead of continung on to stay with Jeff's aunt and uncle it would be best for us to crash at the campground. Let me just say that although I truly appreciate the offer for us to stay on the floor of a friends enclosed trailer - my back will not be right for a long, long time!
Saturday morning came quick and it turned out to be a beautiful day for wheeling up north. Temperatures reached 98 degrees and conditions were dry and dusty. I actually rode most of the day with my top up in an attempt to get out of the scorching sun - but in the end we all ended up drinking tons of water and really taking it easy for most of the day. There must have been nearly 50 rigs for the ride - and from what I heard there was actually very little carnage which seems to be excedingly rare for an entire day of wheeling. (For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about - picture 50 guys with XXXX(insert your favorite tool, toy or sport here!) all egging each other on to go farther, faster, bigger and better! Things have a tendancy to get out of hand sometimes.) Anyway - Jeff popped a tire but I made it through relatively unscatched for my drive to the cabin in Osakis.
At the cabin we made the best of a hot and sticky weekend. I even took a dip in the lake and the 65 degree water actaully felt very refreshing. We did some work, some boating, a little
fishing and a lot of relaxing. We even found time to hit the little mini-golf course and go-cart track on Sunday evening. I had a blast driving Paige and Nate around in the go-carts and watching Paige "play mini golf" was an absolute riot. All in all it was one of the better Memorial Weekends that I can remember. Until next time...
